Kenya's Faith Kipyegon secures second place in AIPS global rankings for female athletes

Faith Kipyegon made headlines in the previous season with groundbreaking performances at the Diamond League Meetings in the 1500m, 5000m, and one-mile events.

Kenyan athlete Faith Kipyegon has achieved another remarkable milestone, securing the second position in the International Association of Sports Journalists (AIPS) Female Athletes of the Year for 2023.

This recognition comes after a poll by 405 journalists from 107 countries, acknowledging outstanding sports personalities worldwide.

Kipyegon, alongside fellow Kenyan athletes Eliud Kipchoge and Kelvin Kiptum, garnered recognition for their exceptional contributions to sports. Notably, Kipchoge and Kiptum secured the 11th and 14th positions, respectively, according to the AIPS Media report.

Faith Kipyegon made headlines in the previous season with groundbreaking performances at the Diamond League Meetings in the 1500m, 5000m, and one-mile events. Her journey began in Florence, Italy, where she shattered the 1500m world record. Subsequently, she broke the 5000m world record in Paris, France, and followed it up with another record-breaking performance in the one-mile event in Monaco.

Kipyegon's exceptional achievements continued with double gold at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, and a Diamond League Meeting final victory.

In the men’s category, Armand Duplantis claimed the top spot with 9.19%, outshining competitors including Soufiane El Bakkali (8th), Miltiadis Tentoglou (21st), Gianmarco Tamberi (24th), Jakob Ingebrigtsen (26th), and Ryan Crouser (28th). The AIPS Global Rankings continue to spotlight and celebrate the outstanding achievements of athletes on the global stage.
